We are pleased to share that Marina Hadjisoteriou, Partner and Head of the Limassol Dispute Resolution Department, has been appointed as the Levant Regional Representative Officer of the International Bar Association’s (IBA) Asset Recovery Committee.
The IBA, established in 1947, aims to protect and advance the rule of law globally. Since its inception, the organization has evolved from an association of bar associations and law societies to one that also incorporates individual international lawyers and entire law firms. Today, the IBA has a membership of over 80,000 individual international lawyers from many of the world’s leading law firms, alongside approximately 190 bar associations and law societies spanning more than 170 countries.
With considerable expertise, the IBA provides assistance to the global legal community and, through its extensive membership, influences international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession worldwide.
The Asset Recovery Committee serves as an international platform for private and public-sector practitioners, civil society, international and regional organizations, policymakers, experts, and funders. It facilitates discussions on best practices and experiences in asset tracking and recovery. This includes asset recovery laws and orders, practical tools and techniques, know-how, and case studies from both criminal and civil law perspectives in both civil and common law jurisdictions.
Asset recovery is a multidisciplinary field that plays a critical role in cases involving fraud, public and private corruption, insolvency, financial services, digital assets and cryptocurrency, sports, sanctions, shipping, private law matters, and war crimes. It is a key consideration at various stages, including securing judgments, orders, arbitral awards and enforcement proceedings.
