Maria obtained a Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Cyprus with Distinction (equivalent to First Class Honours) in 2018.

She also obtained a General Master of Laws (LLM) in 2019 from the University of Edinburgh which focused on Company Law, EU Competition Law and Intellectual Property Law. Her postgraduate studies in Edinburgh triggered her interest in Company Law as she got the chance to further research and specialise in this field of law.

Maria is a member of both the Cyprus Bar Association and the Limassol Bar Association, and has been a qualified lawyer since 2020 achieving 10th place among all candidates in Cyprus in the Legal Council’s legal exams.

In 2020, Maria Georgiou was invited among others by The Chambers Global Practice Guide to be the exclusive contributor of the Law and Practice sections of the Cyprus chapter on Project Finance.

She is generally involved in commercial law cases and is currently an Associate in the Banking and Finance department in the Limassol office. She advises local and international clients on matters such as corporate and project finance, security agreements and regulatory requirements, therefore she can review all corporate documents and provide due diligence reports and assist with the legal perspective of transactions. She is also responsible among others for cases relating to liquidation and reorganisation of companies such as mergers and redomiciliations or cross-border transfers of seat and undertakes the preparation and submission of court applications relating to companies for matters that need the court’s approval.

In 2026 Maria Georgiou was recommended as a key lawyer contributing to the Banking & Finance team’s continued success by The Legal 500 EMEA 2026.
