Eleana Poulladou and Andriana Charalambidou attended the 2024 Common Law in Europe Conference organized by The Bar Council and the Cyprus Bar Association which took place on 14/6/2024 in Limassol.
The Conference, through a series of panels, examined the latest legal developments in the common law in Europe. The Conference covered topics such as the implementation of the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement, ECHR interpretation and recent developments across the European common law jurisdictions, Company law developments in participating European Common Law jurisdictions, The role of Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies in a Digital Economy and Sanctions from a legal and financial perspective
The welcome address was given by the Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales – Samuel Townend KC followed by the president of the Cyprus Bar Association, Mr. Vorkas. Then as a powerful introduction to the conference, Mr Achilleas Demetriades noted in his speech that “the common law jurisdictions of Europe have a disproportionate impact on the Council of Europe”, to emphasize that the impact of the common law in Europe is notable despite being used by the minority of European countries.
