Cyprus Intellectual Property Day 2026: Exploring the Future of IP, AI and Innovation

As artificial intelligence reshapes creative industries, new technologies challenge established legal frameworks and intellectual property becomes an increasingly valuable business asset, the conversation around innovation and the protection of ideas has never been more important.

Against this backdrop, Michael Kyprianou & Co LLC hosted Cyprus Intellectual Property Day 2026, bringing together leading voices from the legal, business, creative and innovation communities to explore the developments shaping the future of intellectual property in Cyprus and beyond.

The event offered a platform for thought-provoking discussion on the opportunities and challenges emerging at the intersection of intellectual property, technology and creativity, highlighting the importance of forward-looking legal frameworks in supporting innovation and economic growth.

The significance of intellectual property to Cyprus’ economic development was reflected in the opening address delivered on behalf of the President of the Republic of Cyprus. The address highlighted the role of intellectual property in supporting innovation, attracting investment and translating knowledge and creativity into sustainable economic growth, in line with Cyprus’ ambition to develop a stronger knowledge-based economy.

The programme featured contributions from Demetris Skourides, Chief Scientist of the Republic of Cyprus for Research, Innovation and Technology; Dids Macdonald OBE, FRSA, a prominent international advocate for design protection and the creative industries; and Halime Eleni Özdemir di Larusso, who explored the connections between culture, creativity and intellectual property.

Representing the Firm, Nick Kounoupias, Head of Intellectual Property, together with Lefteris Eleftheriou and Agis Charalambous, addressed a range of current legal and regulatory developments. Topics included the implications of artificial intelligence for intellectual property, the legal challenges posed by deepfakes, copyright protection, collective licensing and developments in the European Union’s intellectual property framework.

The discussions reflected a central theme of the event: intellectual property is increasingly integral to business strategy, technological development and the protection of creative work. As artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies continue to reshape established practices, businesses and policymakers face the challenge of ensuring that legal frameworks remain effective, balanced and responsive to change.

Cyprus Intellectual Property Day 2026 forms part of the Firm’s ongoing commitment to advancing discussion on intellectual property and supporting greater awareness of its importance across the business and innovation ecosystem.

Michael Kyprianou Law Firm thanks all speakers, attendees and contributors for their participation in making the event a valuable opportunity for knowledge-sharing and professional exchange.
