On September 11th 2023, Andria Kouloumi, Associate, represented Michael Kyprianou & Co LLC at the Cyprus event hosted at the Cyprus High Commission in London and organised by the Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry as part of the London International Shipping Week 2023.

During the event titled: “Leading the Way… Towards a New Era”, the Shipping Deputy Minister to the President, Ms. Marina Hadjimanolis, presented and analysed the Cyprus Maritime Cluster. Highlighting the advantages that Cyprus offers to shipping companies based on the island, she described the country as “an ideal place for companies to develop and excel”, noting the remarkable growth in the number of companies opting for Cyprus’ tax system, surging from 95 to approximately 400, with 250 shipping companies now being based in Cyprus.

The event was attended by governmental, political and other stakeholders. The presence of the International Maritime Organisation’s Secretary-General Kitack Lim, and of his recently elected successor (as of 1st January 2024) Arsenio Dominguez at the event underscored the significance of Cyprus in the realm of international shipping.

The IMO leader, Kitack Lim, lauded Cyprus as “one of the most important IMO members, contributing to the IMO area on policy and technical issues”. He also described Cyprus as “a remarkable contributor to the organisation on both political and technical fronts”, highlighting its gradual expansion of shipping activities worldwide that turned into one of the “most remarkable success stories".
