Among such distinguished guests have been: Cyprus Shipping Deputy Minister, Natasa Pilidou immediate past Minister of Transport and Communications, Marios Demetriades, immediate Past President and Director General of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, Themis Papadopoulos and Thomas Kazakos, President of WISTA International, Despina Panayiotou Theodossiou, President of WISTA Cyprus, Anna Vourgos, Chairman of SafeBulkers, Polys Hadjioannou, Chairman and CEO of Columbia group, Capt. Heinrich Schoeller and Mark O’Neil , Chairman and CEO of Hartman Group Capt. Alfred Hartmann and Dr. Niels Hartmann and many more.

The aim of the show is to facilitate mentoring for the younger generation in shipping, inspiring them to join the industry, as well as to raise awareness of the value of the maritime industry and current matters which affect it.

On her latest show, Gina hosted Esben Poulsson, Chairman of ENESEL PTE LTD and of the International Shipping Chamber, as well as immediate past President of the Singapore Shipping Association.

On the show, Mr. Poulsson shared his 47 year journey in shipping, presenting also his recently published book “A life in shipping.” The pages of his book reveal moments from his very early years, his initial encounter with the industry and the valuable experiences from his journey thereon.

Highlight of the show was Mr. Poulsson’s input on leadership, noting that “Why is somebody successful? They are successful because they have great people doing their work. A good and a confident leader will spread the credit and ensure that people are noticed!”

Furthermore, commenting on the changing times that the industry is experiencing, Mr. Poulsson explained that “Nothing stands still…the only constant is change and people who will not embrace it and can’t embrace it, by the laws of nature will be left behind. What is different today is that the speed of change is far greater that it has ever been, due to speed of technology. The embracing of new technology becomes a competitive issue. Technology, will prove a great benefit to many and a great challenge to some, there will be winners and losers as they always are. What is the most important at the end of the day is good judgement, the ability to analyze, decide and execute…good judgement is the key to it all and a little luck!”

Mr. Poulsson, also made mention to the upcoming Maritime Cyprus conference, taking place between the 6th-9th of October in Limassol, where he will be a speaker. He explained how the Cyprus shipping industry is doing a great job in developing its cluster and that the organizers have done a great job in formulation the agenda of the conference, noting also the great success of the previous Maritime conferences.

In his concluding statement Mr. Poulsson stated that “Even if we inspire a few to come to shipping it is great: Come and join our industry, you will not be disappointed!”

It is worth noting that all proceeds from the book “A life in Shipping”, are donated to “The Mission of the Seafarer,” a non-profit organization that provides help and support to the 1.5 million crewmen and women who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat.
