Michael Kyprianou & Co LLC, being an ardent supporter of female empowerment, was present to support an event organized by WISTA (Women\u2019s International Shipping & Trading Association) Cyprus and the CSC (Cyprus Shipping Chamber), held under the auspices\u00a0the Cyprus Deputy Minister of Shipping, Mrs Natasa Pilides.<\/p>\n

The event took place on the 20th of June, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol, on the occasion the \u201cDay of the Seafarer.\u201d*<\/p>\n

The theme was in support of IMO\u2019s 2019 Campaign: \u201cI Am On Board with Gender Equality,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>a campaign adopted by the IMO aiming to improve diversity in the shipping industry. Speaker at the event on behalf of the IMO was Mrs Natasha Brown, Media & Communications Officer, Legal Affairs and External Relation Division, IMO (International Maritime Organization),\u00a0who presented the aim of this campaign.<\/p>\n

Mrs Anna Vourgos, President of WISTA Cyprus, made the opening address, followed by Mr Andreas Hadjipetrou, Vice-President of CSC and\u00a0WISTA International President, Mrs Despina Panayiotou Theodossiou, who emphasized the need to embrace gender diversity and work towards an inclusive shipping industry, where women are not only present in leadership roles but actually have a say in shaping the industry\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

The #IAmOnBoard campaign emphasizes the importance and value of women within the professional ranks, by highlighting opportunities for women in a wide range of maritime careers, focusing mainly on the aspect of seafarers. IMO\u2019s programme \u201cWomen in Maritime\u201d, denotes the need for more women in the maritime industry, \u00a0especially in leadership roles.<\/p>\n

Our law firm was represented by\u00a0Gina Panayiotou, Board Member of WISTA Cyprus and Global Head of Shipping & Energy at our firm and\u00a0Katerina Kefaloniti, Legal Counsel in the Shipping & Energy Department.<\/p>\n
