The Impact of the Cyrpiot Economic Crisis on Agreements and Arbitration

Eleni Drakou, an advocate of the firm, attended the seminar on “The effects of the Cyprus financial crisis on contracts and arbitration” hosted in Athens by the Cyprus Eurasia Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Center (CEDRAC) and the School of International Arbitration of Queen Mary, University of London.

The speaker, Mr. Loukas Mistelis, Chairman of the CEDRAC Court and Director of the School of International Arbitration, analyzed the opportunities generated through the Bilateral Investment treaties (BITs) for non-Cypriot depositors who are deprived of their deposits. Cyprus has signed Bilateral Investment treaties with 27 countries, 20 of which are still in force.
