Patients' Rights in Cyprus

topic

In Cyprus patients’ rights are established, safeguarded and protected by the Safeguarding and Protection of Patients’ Rights Act of 2004, which is in force since April 2005. This Act recognizes that every patient has the right to health care, treatment and information. The Act places emphasis on the need for the patient’s informed consent prior to any medical procedure. Further to the rights enjoyable by patients, this Act also provides the control mechanism for securing these rights. It requires for the development of Committees that will hear the patients’ complaints and decide upon the issue of whether the law has been properly applied in a given situation.
